Default 2007 Edge hard shifting

I have a 2007 Ford Edge with 43,000 miles. Over the past 7,000 miles I have had it to the dealer twice for a clunking noise when shifting out of first gear and occasionally when down shifting. Both times I was told they could not duplicate the problem and that there were no service codes so they could not help. Has anyone had a similiar problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Rob

Default 07 Edge hard shifting

Hey Rob,
I have an 07 Edge FWD. In 2009 we had the same problem -- hard shifting going from 1st to 2nd gear. It was diagnosed as a faulty transmission controller and fixed under warranty. This week the same issue occurred again, only this time out of warranty (of course). It is the worst when going from park to reverse. It's the same diagnosis: a valve sticking in the controller; need to replace the controller for $1600+. Interestingly, ours started IMMEDIATELY after installing a new battery. Also, there is a TSB (technical service bulletin) for this model involving a transmission sensor that could cause a related problem. No lights came on with either incidence. Hope this helps!

If there is a service bulletin out then there is a chance it will become a recall down the line. You might be able to get them to fix it as "Good Will" and still get it covered. It almost sounds like it could be a software update too.
