I am moving and I want to fit what I can inside a 6x12 U-Haul trailer to move across the country. I want to be able to tow up to 3500 pounds with my ford edge, but I keep reading that I need a "Class II Trailer Tow Package."

Someone told me I should just go to U-Haul for them to install a tow hitch but I'm not sure that this would technically allow for 3500 pounds to be towed. Would I be fine just going to U-Haul or do I need to go to a Ford dealership for this towing package?

Any insight and clarification would be greatly appreciated.

 

My 2013 Edge has the Class II Trailer Tow Package. It also has the 3.5L V6 which has greater towing capacity than the EcoBoost 2.0L. I think you may need more than just a hitch as my Edge has a setting for counteracting trailer sway. I also have the AWD system but I don't know how that affects towing. So, definitely consult a Ford dealer and/or a dedicated trailer dealer before you simply install a hitch.
