Default Brakes Squeal In Reverse

When we had the brakes done on our 2010 Edge, they began squealing when backing up in. The dealer who services the vehicle maintains that is normal. How can we have the brakes corrected to stop the squealing?

Thumbs up

Welcome you the site..

Do they squeal on first application cold when backing, then quiet when they warm?

The squeal is rather intense when cold, and slightly decreases when warm.

The initial cold squeal is startling to those nearby.

Hayapower, We switched dealers. Shared the concern on the brakes. We were told sometimes its just a little sloppy installation. The checked and tweaked the brakes . Squeaky is no longer outrageous.

If your brakes squeal in both forward and reverse, these may be the source of the problem. Your wear tabs, located at the end of the brake pads, can rub against the rotor to create this noise, and this can be an indication that your brakes need replacing.

lessonstar, it was the brand new brakes that were making the awful squealing. We had the shop check them over 3 times and they said it was normal. We switched shops and the new shop corrected.
