Default Radio and Climate control problem

My 2016 Edge is having issues with the aftermarket radio and climate control. We checked fuses and everything looked okay. What’s weird about it, both went out at the same time. Any ideas?

Who installed the radio ?

How did the vehicle perform after the radio change ?

Your vehicle has a CAN system and the radio is one of the modules in the network.

Do you know anything about the CAN system ?

Radio was put in by the previous owner. It worked fine. I am not sure what that system is. Can you explain more about it?

Oh,, the radio will work, but,,,,,,,,,,if it is not compatible with the vehicle CAN it can result with communication system problems.

CAN= Controller area network. Many vehicle functions are controlled by the network which is composed of several modules that communicate with one another.

The original radio was one of the modules in the network and we at this time don't know if the network is communicating correctly or not..
A good scan tool will be able to tell if there is a communication problem or not..

You can always type in CAN systems in vehicles and get some idea of what it does..

It’s really odd it is compatible. it’s worked for the first two months we had it. Could it be faulty electric to the CAN system? Is their a fuse for that?

We are getting into a spider web, might be better to tackle one problem at a time..

We need to verify we have power coming to the radio with the key on.. Even this can become confusing because we don't know if the radio requires constant power to power any memory or clock. In that case we would need power all the time for certain functions to work.
If the clock comes on when power is applied to a particular wire we know that is the clock wire.
Keep that wire aside and now try to find which wires are ground and power for the radio to operate.
Sometimes colors of the radio wires can help make this easier. If it worked before , it most likely was installed correctly.
If we have power and ground AT the radio and it still does not come on, there is a problem with the radio

Before going any further, where do we stand ., so we have some idea where to go next..
No need to get involved with CAN system at this time.
