Default 2001 4x4 not engaging

The first snow storm of the year proved to me that my 2001 Escape isn't "kicking" into 4x4. The panel lights up but the rear wheels aren't spinning.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Default RE: 2001 4x4 not engaging

Update.....

Turns out the rear clutch assembly was bad. The rear wheels would engage when jacked up but would stop when under load. Ford garage replaced assembly. $913.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then in January my wife is on her way home and calls me. She started down the road and the transmission acted like it went in neutral, turns out, drive gear and both 1st and 2nd gear clutches went out of transmission. $1,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had to have an inspection yesterday, needed brakes, $95.00

So,

$1000 for tranny rebuild
$913 for 4x4 clutch assembly
$95 brakes and inspection

Telling everyone that the Ford Escape sucks!!!! Priceless......................
