Default 2002 Ford Escape Alternator Issue

I have a 2002 Escape w/3.0 24 valve V6. When I start it, the battery light comes on & stays on for different lengths of time. Revving it up doesn't make it go out. After a while it will go out. Sometimes while driving, it comes on. (Running time isn't a factor) I have checked alt. output while the light is on, & it's O.K. The belt is tight, & no squealing. What could it be? Thanks in advance for the responses.

check wires coming out of altenator maybe a pin in the connector loose or a broken wire that is not contacting all the time
