For Reference: Put display into diagnostic mode. Hold the RESET button when you start the vehicle. Use Info to toggle to different display.
Otherwise get a code scanner with live diagnostic capabilities.
If installing an aftermarket tach, it should use a pickup that attaches to a plug wire and will pick up the pulse in the wire.
