Default 3" x 5.5" Filter found on floor - any idea where it goes?

Hello,

I found a 3" x 5.5" rectangular small filter on the passenger side front floor of my wife's 2011 Mercury Mariner (I hope it is okay to post here, seeing as the Mariner is pretty much identical to the Escape.) I'm assuming it is a filter. I cannot find where it came from.

Any help is greatly appreciated. NOTE - I've attached photos of the part I'm referring to!

Thank you!

Not a cabin air filter. My cabin air filter that I installed in my 05 Escape (they don't come preinstalled from the factory) looks like an engine air filter and is installed from under the hood on the passenger side under the windshield.3" x 5.5" Filter found on floor - any idea where it goes?-mifp66.jpg

Looks like the seal off of the air inlet door (not sure if their rectangle) or a blend seal ect. Is there any old adhesive on the back side?, or any 'impression' line around the perimeter of the foam?

Hayapower,

No there is no adhesive on it. I looked around the passenger area pretty well and couldn't fine where it could / would go.. took a flashlight and looked up under the dash around the vents, wiring etc...

If I can't find where it goes I'll stop by the dealer.. if I find out where it belong, I'll post it!

Thanks

Looks pretty much like a little carpet which in some cars goes at the bottom of some console tray or drawer.
