Can anyone tell me why my car wont go into reverse (intermittent problem)
I have a 2002 Ford Escape (v6) Monday of last week I went to reverse out of a parking spot and it seemed to be hung up. When I stepped on the gas, it lurched back and went into reverse. Wednesday, I went to reverse out of a parking spot and no matter what I did - it wouldnt reverse. I was able to put it into reverse, there were no strange noises, but it wouldnt go. I checked the emergency break (it was not on) and tried it several times. (turned engine off, turned back on, put in reverse, etc) I could go forward (very little since there was a pole in front of me). I put it into neutral and tried to push it out of the parking spot,- was unable to push it even with a second person helping me.
While waiting for about 2 hours for a tow truck, my husband rev'd the engine and it went into reverse.
2 days at a ford dealer and they couldnt duplicate the problem or find anything wrong. Another day at an transmission repair place could not turn up anything wrong. I do see that 2002 ford escapes have intermittent transmission problems putting it into reverse but none of the postings ever seem to say why-what can we get fixed?
