I married my long time girlfriend and she moving to Canada.....so we are importing her 2011 Escape from US and now I have to get it inspected in Canada... Now the kicker .....the DRL must be "ON" all the time even in the "OFF" position..

When importing a US vehicle into Canada, it needs to meet the Transport Canada requirement of NOT being able to disable my daytime running lights, i.e. turning light switch to left which changes from "Auto" to "Off".... it is illegal to be able to turn off the DRLs.

Can you tell me how to disable the "DRL off" option on the headlight switch?

Does anyone know if I can just modify wiring at the switch or is it simply a reprogramming solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

 

Not sure if you can on the 2011 but I did turn the DRL on in my 2012. I personally like DRL and found that it was programmable on or off. For some reason it is only programmed on for Escapes going to Canada. I purchased a OBD II scan tool with the A-B switch and used FORScan. Check them out, they will advise you on the proper adapter and you can download the free software from there site. Ford Stealerships want $100.00 + to take 3 minutes and program the DRL on. Good Luck.
