Default Escape intermittent starter motor problem

I just replaced the starter motor on my daughters 2001 Escape (65k mi) and it still has the intermittent starting problem. The starter will just click/grind and act like it wants to turn the engine over but doesn't. Wait awhile and then it works...no consistency. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to look?
The dealer says there is no starter relay in their parts book.
If anyone has overcome this problem or knows how to overcome it please reply...Thank you

Just curious if you got this resolved, and what you did if so. (my Daughter has an Escape too..) I have fixed a couple of starter problems and might be of help if not.

If there is no stand alone relay, it has to be integral on the starter. Beyond that your connections at the battery or starter terminal maybe the problem. I am assuming the battery is also fine....

Good Luck
