Default Escape overviews and stuff to watch out for

I am looking to buy an Escape for my daughter. Want to spend $4000 and she wants a sunroof. What kind of chronic issues are there (if any). Best engine? Common rust points? Years differences? I'll be the guy fixin' this thing until she finds a guy that knows about cars.

for 4k your looking at a high mile 08' to 10' model. the 4cyl had less probs and the 08' had a tranny issue. the common rust issues are the top of the rear wheel well. I have a 12' and it started to show issues there last year. theres a recall model wide w/ the throttle body and they wont replace until you start having power issues or you get stuck on the side of the road with said issue. That's what I know......and now you know.

Throttle body recall? Is it good forever? How many miles are the 4 bangers good for?

OP, we're in the same situation as you. I'm seeing a lot of rust on the rear wheel wells of the Escapes we've looked at. I'm wondering how easy it is to arrest it and stop it from becoming a real problem.

My experience with this type of rust on various cars is that you can get it redone at a body shop and it will look good for 3 years or so until it sneaks back. IIRC $500-$700.

Hold out fir somthin newer. The stealership told me that the 08-12 were built like tanks. Million mile car if the preventative is kept up.

Reasonable price if the car checks out.

We pulled the trigger on a 2008 with 132K. NO RUST! Found it in a garage just one mile from home. Red with sunroof. $4.5K Now she is looking how to "decorate" the interior.
