Default Escape is Possessed, clicking and flashing out of control.

I have a 2005 Ford Escape. Last night i stopped to get a coke and turned car off, since wife was staying in the car I went to restart it. Just got a clicking and nothing when I turn the key, no dash lights, nothing. When I turn the key off the interior lights blink dimly, a rapid clicking, almost a buzz form under the dash. Taking the key the lights and sounds change, turning the key to ON, makes things stop but no lights not start.

I am going to change the battery, but think the problem id deeper.

Need help QUICK.

Thanks,

Changed battery and everything seems to be normal. Have never seen that before.
Time will tell.

Sounded like a battery, or cable/connection problem to me.. Although a few year old battery failure isn't allthat common.. My 05 F250 had a battery go south as well at about 2 years old, and would bring down the capacity on both for a slower crank speed.. My 93 150 purchased a year old, had the original battery when I sold it off to my brother in 2003!!

Thanks for the update....
