Default Ford Escape: 4 Cylinder vs V6

Hi I'm thinking of either a v6 or 4 cylinder AWD Ford Escape.

From what i've read the mileage will be better for the 4 cylinder, but it's noisier than the V6. Is there any other difference? Does the V6 shift better?

Which would you suggest? What about in the FWD models?

Yes, i'll test drive them both.

I personally would go with the V-6. My daughter just bought a new 2009 Mariner AWD. She is in Arizona and runs MAX A/C all the time. She is presently averaging 26+ MPG running around the Phoenix, AZ area.
