Whooshing - airleak sound from brakes
2001 Ford Escape - there is a whooshing, air leaking sound when I take my foot off the brake. It's gotten louder over the past week. If I apply the brake the noise stops. Brakes are not mushy or spongy - still able to brake properly. Thinking it may be the vacuum, hoping it's not the Master Cylinder (especially as the brakes are working perfectly). Thank you for any assistance.

This won't help with your problem, but might easeyour concern a little. I bought a new 1988 Ranger S/C 4x4 XLT. It did the same thing. Sounded like air brakes releasing. Never did find out what it was, never had a problem with the brakes andI drove the truck for 14 years trouble free.

Thanks for the response - I'm only worried because the noise is new. If it had been there since the beginning - that's another matter. Going to break down and take it in for a "look"
Enjoy the weekend.

I ahd the same thing with 01 escape and had to replace the brake booster. I feel your pain, because that f*ckin noise drove me crazy for several months. But, anyway. It is a gasket on hte brake booster that is not indivually sold to to fix it you must replace the entire brake booster. G/L
