Question Yep, I'm back yet again!

Ok, here's the issue, on my 2008 the steering u-joint coupler went out, it was clanking and had way to much play in the steering wheel to the point it would for a split second make the suv jerk to one side and then it would release then within 10'ish second it would do it to the other side, anyway, we got it replace, problem solved, here's my issue, the stupid airbag clock spring decided to go out UGH, well this is the problem, I'm not finding one that is like the one that came on the suv. Let me explain, the part # is 8L8T-14A665-AB there is a barcode then another # that reads *15171068A* on Fords parts page it shows the same part # but it's a A at the end and not a AB and O'Reilly's shows that same thing , but here's the deal (I've enclosed pics with what I'm talking about circled), the plug in from the vehicle to the clock spring is dead center and the one on the Ford page and O'Reilly's are way over to the left on the clock spring. Pic 1 shows where that plug goes through the back of the steering wheel, pic 2 the front of the steering wheel where the airbag goes on it and pic 3 is the airbag clock spring that was on the vehicle, notice how close it is to the top right hole (small bolt that holds it on), all the ones that keeps saying is a replacement/OEM is way to the left... Can someone please help me figure this out???

When you are dealing with average run of the mill parts, parts supply houses are OK. But when dealing with SPECIALITY parts, you are better off dealing with a Ford dealership parts dept. We all learn this after awhile, .

I've been on my local Ford Dealerships website to see how much one was (by entering the last 8 digits of my VIN) and the only that comes up says this >>
  • Not For (Electronc Stability Brake Cntl).

Some things are better done with a personal visit.

hanky- I found out electronic stability brake cntl is NOT traction control. I also went into the ford dealership and took mine, the airbag and the steering wheel and the one they say that goes to mine in fact does NOT go to mine, the two mounting holes for the little screws to put it on the steering column doesn't match up to mine. I did however find a OEM Ford one brand new that is exactly like mine on ebay and is quite a bit cheaper than Ford ($175) and that didn't even have the align tool on it, the one on ebay has the the align tool on it.

Did you buy your vehicle new or was it used ?

If you purchased it used, there is a good chance somebody was in there and changed some parts.

What year is your vehicle and depending on that info can open a whole new can of worms.

The dealership has the "as built" info and if it is different from yours, parts have been changed by someone.

I bought it used in 2016, it was 8 yrs old when I bought it. The part is the original airbag clock spring. I found out the 8L8T is the original and 8L8Z is a updated and newer version of it, which is what they replace the original one with. I also found out the #'s between the * and * are assembly line #'s, it doesn't have anything to do with the part #. I also found that parts go by the last 8 digits of the VIN # and the one I found was matched to my vin's last 8 digits.
