I didn't see an escort page so I'll put my issue here.. hope it's OK? I bought a 2000 model escort zx2, the radio is a stock radio but I'm thinking it had a different stock head unit in it before. The wiring in the back has been cut up and butchered. The car has an original 6 disk CD changer in the trunk and I believe it has a factory amp also under the driver's seat. My question is, there's only 2 plugs goin to the head unit and every pinout is used but there's more wires in the wire harness that aren't connected. They are just taped up. Should there be another plug there for the extra wires? That's why I'm thinking there was another factory head unit in before .

What are the cut wire colors, including any tracer (stripe) colors? Or, post an image of the cut wires..

 

here is the deal with the 2000 zx2: there were two different head units used.

the head unit you describe is not the one which controls the cd changer. The head unit you need is the one which reads "premium sound" on the tape door. This version of the head unit has the changer controls

another problem you have is the wiring. Your radio will work but may not have sound to the front speakers as it sits now

find yourself a premium sound head unit then get back to us and i will guide you through the rest and help you get this back up and running
