2001 ZX2 negative battery cable
 

Hi. New here. Maybe someone's seen this problem before, I hope. I've got a 2001 ZX2 (auto trans). We discovered a grounding problem. My buddy suggested running a new ground from engine block or trans. to chassis, to override the fault. I''ll probably do that, but...what's up with the nagative battery cable on these? When I replaced my battery a few months ago I found the terminal all corroded. And it had several smaller wires along with the main neg. wire leading into the terminal connector. I cleaned it up real good. It looked to me like something that need to be replaced, but no one seems to sell them, other than Ford, if you want to buy a whole new engine wiring thing for several hundred dollars just to get a battery connector. Or get one from a junkyard that is also old. A few months later, corrosion is reappearing, and we've got a ground problem. So my question...can I just use a standard negative battery cable and connector, and take these other wires and run them all to a singe ground point, either on the chassis or the neg. battery terminal like they seem to go to now?

Yes , you can. If you use 10 gauge wire and the proper terminals = more than sufficient to do the job.
