Default '86 Stalls Intermittently

Just as the title says my '86 stalls sometimes, sometimes it runs great, sometimes it will run rough. It has the 1.8 in it. I put a new idle stop solenoid on it. Helped a little, but not much. Has no problems off idle. Also, how do you adjust the transmission linkage that is attached to the throttle? It shifts too fast when in drive, So I have been manually shifting it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The linkage at the throttle is usually the downshift (detent). If you're upshifting too fast that is a technical problem (likely from a shift kit or internal fracture). To adjust the detent hold the throttle (gas pedal) full open and push the detent arm on the transmission full against (as it would be pushed by the throttle). The space between should be measured. There is a factory setting for this which I'm not sure of (could be around (.040 to.080). One way or the other the downshift will operate sooner or later. If the detent is held against on startup it will not want to run.
