Default 95 Escort inner steering shaft in column

I have a 1995 Escort that had the airbags blow. Now the inner steering shaft in the steering column moves in and out about 2" or so. The clamps at the u-joint are still tight and it is not moving there. It is somewhere inside the outer housing that I can't see. Can anyone tell me what is causing that? (I have to still tow the car so I can't pull the column out right now and find out for myself). Thanks.

[sm=welcomesign.gif]I dont know what is wrong with the collum but had a air bag go off in a 95 escort and this did not happen to me.[hr]You might want to get a good collum from the junk yard with a good air bag attached.
