Default 95 escort timing belt and cooling fan problem

Have put in a new waterpump and in the process got the crank and cam out of line. I followed the hanes manual putting number one piston up and that put the vr sensor on top of ninth tooth on crank pully from the missing tooth on pully. The cam pully pointer was straight up ,new belt on , first turn of key got a cough but nothing afterwards. Went through this sequence many times and several of the times with the cam pointer off 90 degress engine started rpm was up but quit on its own and refused to start again, but started with a different cam setting but was not right. Can the computer have anything to do with my problem? My fan cooling problem can wait, but is the same as the nearby poster and will cover later. bernie

Well I found out why my timing was never the same after lining up crank and cam. I had too much tension on the belt with the spring loaded tensioner, and it was jumping teeth. I put a little slop in the belt and bingo it works perfect. I'm now on the no cooling fan problem, will report back.

No fan at any temperture and i'm finding out the computer is involved .Iv'e checked the relay in the fuse box in front of the battery by taking the cover off and putting 12v to the termanels marked coil and it pulled in the other two . The other two below the air filter checked okay also. I tried reading the codes but got no response so tomorrow i'm checking the eec relay in front of the floor shifter inside,as i believe its power for the computer.

All problems are solved with the no radiator fan blowing. I bought a computer and a ignition module from a auto junk yard for 50 bucks and the ac started blowing cold air once again and my temperture inside gauge also started working and most of all, the radiator fan came on with the low speed when the water got hot and the high speed of the fan came on with the ac turned on. The two relays under the air filter box mounted on the fender wall can be taken out and checked with the plastic cover popped off.And the relay mounting base with the light green wire and yellow wire can jumped with a jumper wire to get the low speed fan to come on for testing the fan to see if it will work. Now after 30 hours of intensive head scratching ,where's the milwaukee's best.

My timing problem was only solved because i put the old belt back on inadvertently, now after making that discovery I put the new belt on and back to the problem of cam and crankshaft out-of-line again. frustrated I went to another parts store and he sold me a belt that looked like the old one. I put it in and it works perfect. The belt that was not working was a round tooth belt and the one that works is a square tooth belt ,so now you know at 70 years old that graveyard is beginning to look like a good long vacation spot.
