Default '99 Escort sensitive alarm

My '99 Escort 4 door anti-theft alarm goes off without cause. Many times this coincides with either cold weather or rain (or both). About 10-20 minutes after parking the car, either with rain, or cold, or both, the alarm will self-initiate. I then shut it off with the key-fob. Sometimes the car and I play this game 2-3 times before it feels... sated(?) This past year it's gotten more sensitive (gets its feelings hurt being left in inclement weather?), though for the 3 years previous to that, it was garage kept and occurred maybe twice (in the middle of the night). I talked to the dealership- their mechanic couldn't get it to do it (naturally), and they said the unit wasn't re-settable for that year. Additionally, they said replacements were costly, and therefore not recommended.

So- does anyone have any insights? Or do I just learn to live with a temperamental Escort?

Default RE: '99 Escort sensitive alarm

check the fuse box or the alarm box and see if it is wet after a rain. I had an '91 escort pony and there was a small pin hole in the windshield gasket and it would drip one or two drops on my fuse box and mess things up.
