Default Clutch / starter interlock, 93 Escort

HI, I am new to FF but not to Fords. My 93 Escort Wagon will crank when the clutch is depressed fully, Key On or Key Off. If Key On then it starts & runs fine without turning key to start position (only depressing clutch). If key off, engine cranks when clutch is depressed but does not run. Will crank if KOER and clutch is fully depressed. (plainly this is bad for the starter pinion and ring gear while shifting transmission gears)Thislooks muchlike a post by dbears on 10/22/06, but I see no replies. I have not trouble shot yet, I am good with electrical diags and schematics....where can I get them? Thanx, idogdou

My starting wiring diagram starts at the ignition switch which is hot at all times, then BK/DB wire goes to the clutch switch, then a BK/R wire goes to the starter. I see nothing here except a faulty ignition switch which would cause your problem. You can get Chilton's manuals at most libraries. Most auto parts places sell Haynes manuals.for about $20.You can get repair iinformation at the autozone websight which is www.autozone.com . Dave

Right on! The ignition switch contacts had welded shut, a new switch was the fix. This must be a fairly common problem as my podunk town part store had one in stock. Thanks! ( I should have posted this reply long ago when I found the fix)
