Default Problem with fuel ignition

I have a 98 Escort ZX2 2.0L DOHC. Just this past week it started to week like I was dropping a cylinder and changed out two bad plugs. It ran good for about to days and not the problem came back but worse. When you are off the gas the car runs fine but whenyou step on the gas it "falls on its face" or hesisitates like crazy and feels like it going to quit but doesn't. It feels like an ignition issue. Like the fuels not igniting right in the cylinder. I'm not sure if this could be a sensor but I'm up for any advise you have. I replaced the coil a year and a half ago and it's a similar feeling except with the coil you had to stay on the gas or it would quit. any ideas?
