7.3 with 174,000 miles
Hi all, Thinking about buying an Excursion. I test drove a 2000 v-10 last night. Not sure if it was me or what but it did not feel like it had the power of my 2002 dodge 1500 with the 360 gas V-8 quad cab 4x4 lb. Anyway I found a 2000 with a 7.3 I have not taken it for a test drive. But I'm worried about the high miles 174,000. The dealer selling it is telling me oh you can get 500,000 mile out of these 7.3 easy with no problems. Should I be worried? Asking price is just under $16
The V-10 I drove had 82K on it and was in good shape and load for same price. Anyone know the spec's on the V-10?
Thanks for the info. Bob

RE: 7.3 with 174,000 miles
Low millage for a diesel sounds like a great price i looked at 2000 here in Tn. and they wanted 22k for it with 190k miles i have a 95 F-350 4x4 with 7.3 turbo e4od tranny 3:55 gears and i get 16 miles to the gallon and I'm real happy with it it has 168k miles and just got back from a 2000mile trip with no problems and no oil consumption and its due a change.I don'tthink the v10 will get that good of fuel mileage plus gasoline engines don't run as long as diesels

RE: 7.3 with 174,000 miles
I have 173000 mi. on my 7.3 2000 model. other than having to replace the cam sensor 3times @ $100 each. the rig is running great. I tow car carrier, boats, have plenty of power. It's been a very reliable vehicle for uor family since we bought it new in 2000. Always change the oil and all filters( oil, fuel, air ) recharge the coolant w/additive for cavitation. Simple lube. Have done this all myself. Serpentine belt and tranny fluid and brake fluid change at dealership for my ease of mind. All is great! Hope that bit of info helped.

RE: 7.3 with 174,000 miles
CT Bob, I have a 2002 with 105,000 and its running strong. I love the diesel and will probably never own another gas engine if I can help it. The gas mileage difference between the V-10 gas and the dieselmakes the diesel worth every $. If the 7.3 runs good it sounds like a great deal. If it runs questionable, I'd buy it anyway and rebuild the diesel. You can't go wrong with an excursion diesel.
Regards.
