Ford Excursion So the size of the Expedition is not enough for you, then the massive Excursion is the way to go. With options including a powerful diesel engine, the Excursion is like a tractor trailer built for family use.

Default Transmission downshift

Today our 2004 Excursion 6.0 diesel w 230 000 miles suddenly downshifted while going down an interstate at 70 plus mph, almost caused an accident, killed the engine, which would do nothing after limping to the side of the road....had it flat bedded to the closest Dealer, being Sunday, will have to wait till tomorrow to see what they say.

It is a sales vehicle, and is 10 hours away, stranding my sales manager.

I see that Ford is having issues with newer trucks doing the exact same thing, and are having a huge recall to fix them, has anyone else had an excursion do this?

Thanks.

Welcome to the site..

First I’ve heard of,, and the recall doesn’t apply to your M/Y...
Did it actually downshift, or an engine lock issue?

It is at a Dealership now, of course it happened 8 hours away, according to their scan, a speed sensor in the transmission went out, causing it to downshift suddenly. Hopefully that is all that it is, supposed to be fixed Thursday or Friday.

Thanks for the reply
