Default Best tires for Expedition?

What are the best tires to get for my Expedition? I do mostly highway driving, but occasionally go off road and drive on snow and ice about 4 months out of the year. I'm thinking Michelin LTX or cross terrain, but I've heard that these ride better with LT tires instead of P tires. Can anyone comment on that? Thanks.

Not sure about Ford's recommendations, but be careful if you do any towing. I bought mine with Firestone tires, which Ford eventually replaced without charge. Problem was, they put ordinary car tires on as replacements. I have the towing package and do tow regularly. As a result I started getting blow-outs. Thank God no one was hurt. So I went up to Sam's and questioned the guys in the tire center. They told me the Expedition has never been sold with the proper tires. They come poorly equipped from the factory. If you want to get good, reliable, service you have to upgrade to an 8 ply tire. So I did. Took some getting used to, 65lbs. of pressure instead of 35lbs., bu the results were impressive. No further problems, excellent handling, and a suprisingly good ride.

I just put Firestone Destination's on my expedition and I love them. I wanted to go with the Michelins but they were way too expensive. The Firestones were about $135 each and have the new technology. Great in rain. I don't take it off road so i can't say how they would do in the dirt.

I have a 2000Eddie Bauer4X4and during the Firestone tire recall in 2000/2001 I put Goodyear Wrangler AT/S on my expedition and have put over 50K miles on them towing and off roading. Absolutely great tire, good ride, quiet and execellant traction off road. I rotate them every 5000 miles and keep the pressure around 45-50 psi. To tell you the truth, the Firestone tires that came with the truck were actually damn good tires and probably would have lasted if you kept the pressure up on them.
