Default Expedition 2003 Catalytic Converter "bolted?"

hello,

i would like to know out there if both catalytic converters for Expedition '03 is bolted or welded?

Im having sensors telling me that they are failing. ford wants to charge me in california 3,000 to replace them. I found a link in youtube that suggests to remove them (if removable) and soak in water and soap for 24 hours to clean some debris inside the catalytic converter and it should give me some time...

any help would appreciate it...

thanks

bobby from california

I am suspecting the converters on my 2001 Explorer And also saw a video on youtube about soaking it soapy water. I don't know if that'll work. But on my vehicle, I am lucky that it is bolted on both ends. A quick peek underneath and you'll know. If it turns out that the converter is a problem, it would be very wise to replace the O2 sensors as they are likely to have been damaged from the high temp. You're at a great place for info. A couple of guys here have helped me think through my situation. Good luck.

thank you,

my issues started last month.... after 100,000 tune-up with Ford

1) engine would stall on idle
changed all sparkplugs
changed all 8 coils

after 2 weeks, "service engine soon lights" returned
i am told that the O2 sensor for both catalytic converter sending error code which means time to change/replace both catalytic converter, my car is 2003 and i guess 9 years life of catalytic converters?
to replace them, Ford is charging me 3,000!

i wish someone would be able to help me determine if them converters are bolted, my friend is willing to remove them and soak in water with soap for 24 hours, per research on youtube... im hoping to save some time and money until its time to buy a new car....

my guess is california is very strick in emissions issue? which is the reason its expensive for catalytic replacement?

thanks again

Bobby
