Default Frozen plug in 5.4

2002 Expo w/5.4 #3 plug frozen Cylinder well is clean of all porcln chips the electrode is erect and still attached to plug body. plug is a standard 5/8 size. It is apparent that much effort has been expended to extract the plug as the top of plug hex is so rounded that no plug socket will slip over. Looked over the extraction kit for 3 valve problems, Been told this sometimes works, but the #3 position does not allow that type of work to be performed, I have cut access hole in body just below windshield to allow long extensions to be placed in proper alignment. Has any one tried a deep EXTRACTION socket to remove a plug? I have no prob buying the $40. set, my main fear is that the socket with not go down the hole.(diameter limited to 21.6mm) This suv is only used on the beach and has been running on 7 cyls (recently discovered) I purchased this problem and much to my shame am paying for lack of due diligence, any help would be much appreciated.
