Rear Drive Shaft Removal
I need to remove the rear drive shaft on my 1998 Ford Expedition. The 4 bolts are approximatly 24 point with about a 1/2" diameter head. A standard inch or metric 12 point does not seem to work. Ford parts does not offer a tool for this. Does anyone know what tool should be used and where it can be purchased? Thanks
I broke a nice 1/2 drive Craftsman trying that on my 95 F150. Instead, pull the U-joint out to drop the driveshaft. Just Pop the C-clips out of 2 ends oposing each other and tape the U-joint through carfullt so you dont lose any pin bearings. Remove the cap. Drive it back the other way to remove the other cap. No it can be slid out of its cradle, and driveshaft removed.
Or if its got the old mini U-bolts, just take them off and pull your driveshaft. You may lose a little oil from the tranny but not enough to make a difference.
