Default Shifting problems

I have a 1999 ford expedition with the 5.4 and automatic transmission. Currentelly i am having intermittet problems with it shifting out of park. I am certain that my foot is fully engaged on the brake and i am not jamming the lever. This problem seems worse if i am parked on any sort of grade. i think it might have something to do with the shift/key mechanism in the stearing column. Any ideas? i would perefer not to replace the wrong parts thanks for any help.

I am also having the same issues. I just bought a 1999 Expedition today and this issue is very annoying. My wife has carpal tunnel and trying to shift the thing outta park is very painful for her. I dont know what the problem is but my guess is probably the linkage on the transmission itself or the cable to the linkage I'm going to get under it tomorrow and shoot a little PB Blaster on the linkage and see if that frees it up a little, but if anyone is familiar with this issue and knows what the problem is it would be a huge help. Thank you
