1994 EXPLORER 4X4 WONT ENGAGE

RE: 1994 EXPLORER 4X4 WONT ENGAGE
Tap the 4x4 motor at the back side of the transfer case and try switching it to 4x4 again. I'll bet it works now. If it works, it's not fixed.... replace the 4x4 motor. If it doesn't, lift the front wheels off the ground and turn the front axles forward by hand. Each hub should lock automatically and the tires should turn as you turn the axles. If the hubs don't lock, go back to whoever did your last brake job and raise hell.
The 4x4 is controlled by engaging the transfer case through the 4wd motor, which then engages the front differential, the forward torque then activates the front hubs which has the final say in whether 4wd gets engaged. Since your 4x4 light turns on, it indicates that the 4x4 motor "thinks" it has engaged, but actually hasn't. It's a fairly common problem on older trucks where the 4x4 rarely gets used. I find bad 4x4 motors most of the time when 4x4 shifting is a problem

Think you can answer this as well? :-)
I drove my 94 Explorer on summer tires in the snow and the 4x4 worked brilliant. When I changed to winter tires the 4x4 "slures" and
it handles realy bad when turning. If I set in back to 2WD it handles well again. When I changed tires the "hub" was stuck inside the wheel and I had to put it back.Is it possible to put it back the wrong way? It seems I have two ways to enter, the first is when it enters all the way and touches the metal and the second is when it's almost all the way in but it has a slight spring-resitance.I can push it all the way in and the wheel nuts would seal it when I tighten them. Sorry for the bad languange but my technical english is realy bad.
