How do you remove the interior rear door cover so the speaker can be removed?

thanks in advance

If it's like my '02 you need to remove 3 small screws at the bottom of the door panel and another near/behind the armrest. After that, you need to CAREFULLY slide the door panel up (it will slide up towards the window) and then pry the door panel back as it is held in place with PLASTIC clips. These rather large clips go into recesses in the door itself and are shaped like a sideways "L" (they look like this on my Explorer "____]"). In other words, the panel, which has the clips connected to it, now needs to be carefully worked down where these clips are to remove them from the door recesses.

Once the door panel is off you may need to remove the insulation curtain that is stuck to door to get the speaker wire free (but I don't think you do). If you do have to remove the curtain you may need some contact cement to get it to adhere to the door again.

My advice, be careful and don't yank too hard and break any clips.

Hope this helps since I've done similar work on the front doors of my '02.

Deano
