Default 2001 Explorer radio display.

Hello, I own a 2001 Explorer Eddie Bauer. The radio works fine, but the display comes and goes. One minute it will be there and then it fades away. It seems to be completely random.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds like the 'display board' solder connections..

It's a pretty well known and documented problem.. The display board solder connection/s fail from heat causing the board to go blank or intermittent.. Possibly the board itself, but generally a connection issue given the history..If your handy you can do the repair yourself with the step proceedure's available.. Do a search for.. 'Ford Radio No Display' and there's plenty of history on the failure as well as the repair proceedure.. Sometimes it easier and less hassle to get a 'take out' unit as a replacement, as long as it's guaranteed not to be dispaly DOA...
