Default 2002 Exp sport rear end

Just came from Ford dealer, they replaced a rear end seal but said the rear end needed replacing. Estimated cost 900 bucks any suggestions?

I'd want to know the extent of the jackpot damage. You're first mistake was takin' it to a stealership. (Bend over!) Any metal in the jackpot? What's the gearset look like... bearings 'n such?

I don't think the dealer exposed the gears, they said they saw metal shavings on the drain plug and noise coming from the bearings when they turned the wheels. Sorry not much info
