Default 2003 Explorer Transmission

We have a 2003 Eddie Bauer Explorer with 75k miles. Took in to service since bucking a bit at low speeds -- figured tune-up needed. Two things -- supposed to have double Platinum spark plugs which it didn't, and now understand Ford issued Service Bulletin on a Controller piece ($198) for the transmission. From what I hear, the dealers are stocking several of these transmission controllers since widespread problem. Will this turn into a recall? Any similar experiences?

It's possible it could be recalled if over a certain number are defective. It's less likely though because it poses no immediate danger - it could be looked at as more of an annoyance than a major malfunction.
