Default 2004 Explorer wont start

the only way I can start the Explorer is to remove the positive terminal, wait a few minutes and reconnect it, then it will start. However, two weeks ago, the ignition key memory stopped working so I did the same thing by removing the positive terminal and waited a few minutes then the memory came back in the ignition key. Does anyone know what this problem might be so I could be able to start it without removing the positive terminal?:
Thanks, would appreciate any help!
ron
