2005 Explorer Door Lock Internal Mechanism
I have only a single keyed lock on my explorer. The key turns, but there is no resistance. The only way to get into the vehicle is to use the remote to unlock it. But often, I have to hit the remote a third time, because the latch only partially releases, when I grab the drivers door external handle to open the door.
My remote batteries died, and I had to break into my vehicle with a coat hanger used to press the internal unlock button. As soon as I gained access, I did replace the remote batteries.
When I go to lock my vehicle with the internal door lock, there is a clunking noise in the drivers door. Someone suggested that there is a plastic clip that is part of the door lock mechanism that has broken.
My local Ford Dealer wants $150.00, just to diagnose the problem, and any repairs are above and beyond the fee to diagnose the problem for a known design defect. I previously had a 2002 Explorer with a similar issue. Where can I find a schematic drawing of the locking mechanism for my door? How expensive is the clip to purchase?

I have attached the Ford diagram of the 2005 Ford Explorer's door latch mechanism. You can see the latch callout 21812 highlighted in green, the part number for your drivers front is part number 6L2Z7821813A and it can be viewed/purchased here: #6L2Z7821813A: Latch.. I am not really sure what plastic clip you may be referring to but I would be happy to give you the part number if you can find the callout on diagram I provided. I hope that this helps out.
