Default 2006 Explorer head rests

I have an Explorer XLT, 2006 model. Wanting to put some seat covers on but cannot remove the head rest. I have taken it to the dealership and they were no help at all. Is there a way of removing these or am I S.O.L.? Every other car I have owned or seen, you can remove headrests by raising them up and pushing the little button at the base but it does not work on the explorer

I happen to be changing the oil one one right now. I checked it out and found a release button to get it down, but I cannot remove it.

You might be SOL.

where is the button located? The button on top of the seat just lets it raise up and down

HaHa! I found it! With the seat headrest raised, there will be a button on the one side to raise/lower. If you look on the other side, you will see a small hole where a button would be. Use a pick or something similar to push the button inside the hole to release it.

I found it in the shop manual

Jtudor, did you ever find out how to take out the 2nd row head rests. I too have the same problem with my 2006 and my daughters car seat. Thanks.
