personally i would go with the level 2 just for the fact that they have better off road suspension and what not. they come with bfgs and nice rims. but if you dont have any use for off road stuff i would go with the xlt

I just bought an 06 ranger, it is also my 3rd ranger, and it handles anything you can throw at it just fine. If you really want to spend the money on the fx4 level II, go for it , but you don't need it.

The FX4 level II is not worth the money, it is no better off road than any other ranger 4x4, the only true plus it has is the torsen limited slip rear axle compared to just a regular limited slip rear axle in the xlt 4x4. The suspension on the xlt and FX4 are the same except the FX4 has bilistien shocks, which are better, but not worth the money better. You can buy the wheels and tires that come on the FX4 alot cheaper than what Ford will charge you. The msrp on the FX4 is $28,605 thats loaded with an automatic transmission, the xlt 4x4 with the 4-door option and automatic msrp is $27,130 which is a difference of $1,475, you can buy a set of wheels and tires for alot less. If you go with a 2 door ext cab xlt 4x4 with the automatic the msrp is $23,740, that difference is $4,865, you could buy wheels, tires, front and rear lockers and a suspension lift with the money you would save, and that truck would be alot better off road than a stock FX4.
