92 Ford Explorer air conditioner issues

i have a 92 Ford Explorer sport, that the air won't work in! I've tried to put in two cans of freon to recharge the a/c but both times from both cans freon was not going in. The heat works just fine, no issues with it at all. But it's summer time and I'd like to see if it can be fixed without spending an arm and a leg. TIA!

Hi Kelly,
Can you check to see if the air conditioner compressor clutch is operating. You should hear it click on when calling for AC. When it is working(energized) the center of the compressor should be turning with the pulley. I have to cover all these little things since I do not know your background with AC.

Has your A/C system been converted to R-134a refrigerant? If not, being a 1992, your refrigerant would be the R-12 type. Full fill of R-12 is 32 oz, with 7 oz. of paraffin oil. If your system hasn't been converted to R-134a, what type of refrigerant were you trying to put in. If your system was converted, you you know why and how long ago it was done? These all play into what may be the issue.
