94 Explorer for my teenager; gradually 3 out of 4 power windows have stopped working. I have some mechanical ability but due to limited time, I foolishly took it to PepBoys and their repair estimate was $1200.00 !! (I said no thanks)
they said the windows need regulators, does this sound right? if you push the button, you can hear the motor run but the window won't move unless you help it with your hand.
I figure I can buy regulators on the web somewhere but don't know how hard they are to replace...??

I bought my 92 explorer for pretty cheap because ALL 4 power windows didn't work.
Thought it'd be an easy fix but much like you I called around to hear different.
BUT not to fear. I called a few window replacement shops (you know the molibe ones that replace power window glass or windshield) and a few actually replace window motors.
Much like your I could hear the motors but only would move up or down with help from a hand. It still was just the motors though. After years and years they break down. I went on ebay and found 2 front motors for $30 a piece and the cheapest auto glass mobile shop was $50 per window.
So they came out to my work and replaced the front 2 (the most important windows in my book)
for $160!!
I haven't done the back 2 yet but the guy said those might be $100 each for the repair but still that beats out $1200.
