Exclamation 98 oil pressure

It is a 98 4.0 SOHC that is lossing oil pressure after about three minutes of driving it. Looking at the gauge it starts jumping all over the place then just stays at low and then it starts making this nosie that sounds like a baseball card stuck in the spokes of a bicycle. I am currently at a loss and have been told that if I don't get this fixed soon it could be the end of my job because of the unreliable transportation. I desperatley need any advice that I can get. Thank you

When was your last oil and filter change, is oil at proper level, do you have any leaks. Look at filter, does it look smooth or like a semi-crushed beer can.

Thanks for the help. Turns out I need a new thermostat housing and thermostat before the mechanic could even figure out the oil problem, but they wanted 600 just to fix that so I just went and bought a new car. Still have the explorer sitting in the front yard not sure what I am going to do with her now. Anything I do now is just me putting more money into her then I paid for her.
