We have a 2000 explorer. About 50% of the time when we unlock the doors we cannot open the rear hatch. Both the window button and the handle have no tension and just compress without releasing the window or door. Anyone out there know what may be wong or how to fix this issue?

Did you ever find out about this. I'm having the same problem with a 2001 Explorer Sport. Sometimes, but rarely will it actually work. Most of the time regardless of how we try to unlock the rear hatch or window will not open. There is no tension on the hatch release handle or the window release button.
