Default Blower Fan issue

Hello everyone, I have a question about my blower motor fan. About a month ago it would quit working out of the blue, a quick punch on top of the dash fixed that. Now when I start it up, it will turn on but then about 30 seconds later it slowly dies down then it makes like a chugging noise. Punching the dash no longer works and now my hand hurts. Does this sound like a relay problem or a fan issue? Thanks.

It does it at all fan speeds. The rear fan works just fine.

What year and AC setup do you have?
Have you tried getting under dash on pass side and lightly tapping the blower motor directly?

Oh yes, it's a 2013 limited. I have tapped on the fan and it didn't do anything.

Most likely you will need a new blower motor speed control, its the computerized version of a blower motor resister.
Its a small silver box above the blower motor, has 4 wires going to it, held in by 2 screws.
I would recommend sticking with a motorcraft one, aftermarket ones dont seem to last very long.

I checked the relay and fuses, all good there. I took off a long bar thing to get to the blower cover, was trying to disconnect it until I realized it's an airbag. Also what size are the bolts on the cover? 8mm is to big and 7mm is to small.

I cannot recall if you have to remove the glovebox to access the blower motor or not, I would check under the dash on pass side before removing the glovebox, watch a few youtube videos about removing the glovebox before you do so, super easy to screw up and break the tabs on it.

I do not know what long bar you are talking about nor why you are remotely touching the airbag.

I had to remove it in order to get access to the bolts that are holding the cover on, I just don't know why my sockets didn't fit the bolts. I'm just going to take it to a mechanic because I don't mess with airbags.
