RE: disengaging transmission help

Same type of thing happened to my explorer when it had 150,000 miles. Found out that the overdrive clutch pack is in the same housing as the reverse clutch pack. The plates and discs were worn out and I had to have the transmission replaced. Check your oil to see if it looks burnt and it may smell foul. The costof repair will vary from 1500.00 to 1800.00 depending on the shop. I am sure this wasn't the reply you wanted. God luck.

RE: disengaging transmission help

I have to have a transfer case replaced myself, but for a different reason. It shifts fine into gear but then won't go anywhere as it just dies as soon as you hit the gas.

How much did the replacement cost???
