Default Driver door lock & security alarm

1999 Model XLT 4wd

Driver door was difficult to unlock with key.
Now key will not unlock door, just turns back and forth no resistance or "click" to indicate lock is operational.
Tried keyless (number code) entry. Rapid clicking can be heard, but door does not unlock. Pass door unlocks with key. Will need to enter car through pass door or leave car unlocked, Latter not good idea obviously.

Also, car alarm started going off intermittently. Turned off with switch provided, short time later came back on. Turned off, turned ign switch to acc, then off as per owner's manual. Same thing again.
Got spare switch, turned off alarm. Seems to Be OK.

Anyone want to weigh in on these?
Thanks in advance,

Skysarge

I can't help with the alarm but with the door i have to same problem. with mine the rod that connectes the tumbler to the lock keeps popping off most likely due to age and the road dust that got into the door over the yrs (got a 2000) i solved mine by reattaching the rod, sprayed the higby with wd-40 (might want to use silicone spray for odor reasons) and use my keyless remote all the time now since i know if i use the key it will still pop the rod off as its only a plastic piece that holds it
