Default Headlight Issue

I'm having a problem as well as a saftey issue with my headlights on my '93 Explorer Sport. The headlamps will sometimes cut out as I drive - just the headlights, the parking lights stay lit. It has done it a few times with the low beams and will do it pretty often when using the high beams. Sometimes it will do this within a few minutes of turning them on and sometimes it will happen after having them on for a half hour or more. Has anyone else had this problem or know of what may be the problem?

have you checked all your electrical connections to make sure they are not loose, first.

Thanks for the help josser. I figured out that the switch was the problem. I guess I didn't check it thoroughly enough the first time. Thanks!
