help! 06 exp. with blown engine
My son's 06 explorer V-6 with only 39k miles engine just blew. Yes, just 3 k past the warranty.
The mechanic at the dealer said it was a blown head gasket or cracked head. They will know more monday but told him it will probalby be 9k for a new engine. They allready charged him 700.00 to start looking at it. He has had all the maintenance done on time and at the dealer. No check engine light or any other indication came on prior. He bought the car new.
Has anyone had this same problem. It sounds like it is some kind of defective gasket or something else. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Do you know if there was a tsb out on this. Does anyone have a contact at Ford or know the best approach to getting them to put in the new engine.
I live in calfornia, he lives in virgina.
I have not heard of a car doing this since mine did in 1962. This is a 2006 that he paid 40k!
Thanks
Pat

RE: help! 06 exp. with blown engine
I would be surprised if Ford didn't offer some kind of help with enough pressure with either a shared expense/customer satisfaction repair.. As long as the failure could be pinned to a componant failure and not owner/operator generated.. You might try the Ford Corporate number in your hand book, or call the area rep and plead you case to see if they will pony up any help.. More so if it was Ford service documented atthe selling/servicing dealer or at the dealer level as you might have more leverage..

Personally - I hate to say it - but after a car outruns it's warranty some many more mechanics than you think drop sh** in the engine to produce failure. Could be someone who don't like you even. All you have to do is drop a little ____ in the gas tank and a couple miles down the road - instant motor blow. Good garages and mechanics don't drum up business this way - sorry to say but some do.
