Default Idle Whine/Tone/Howl

I have a 97 explorer. The whine occurs when the engine is idling, and stops after the accelerator is pushed. The whine tapers if you accelerate slowly, and stops completely if you gun it. This started about 2 weeks ago and happened two times on different days, but now it occurs almost the entire time driving. Occasionally it will quit for a while. The tone occurs on a 'G' if that makes any difference. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kim

I had the same "vacuum cleaner" noise until I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve (35$) from local auto parts store. Fine ever since.
